About

VK3PF is one of the two amateur radio callsigns held by Peter Freeman VK3PF – the other is VK3KAI.

I live in Churchill, Victoria, where I worked as a Lecturer in Biosciences (human anatomy & physiology) at Monash University Federation University Australia Gippsland Campus.

On 1 January 2014, most of the operations (& assets) at the Monash University Gippsland Campus were transferred to a new university, made up of the old University of Ballarat and the Gippsland Campus of Monash University. That university is Federation University Australia. Most of us are still doing essentially the same job, just with a new employer, new business cards & name tags, and one would suspect lots more changes to come in the next year or so. I was right about more changes: I was made redundant in late September 2016.

I have been a licensed radio amateur since January 1979.

My main interests have been in the areas of weak signal operations on the VHF, UHF and microwave bands. I have not yet organised approval to erect any major masts since I moved house in July 2010 – still on the “to do” list.

I am a member of the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) and was Editor of the WIA magazine Amateur Radio from January 2006 until June 2019.

I became interested in Summits On The Air (SOTA) in the middle of 2012, with my first activation of a summit occurring in May 2012. I find SOTA attractive as it combines my interests in amateur radio with my love of the Australian outdoors, together with bushwalking and cross-country skiing. It was not surprising that these interests also expanded to include Parks activations, with participation in the VKFF program, Keith Roget Memorial National Parks Award and similar programs.

    Hello Peter,

Is the date for GippsTech 2020 known yet please.

I’ve wanted to attend since I retired (2012) but have been away each time. I’m hoping I can make it this year.

    Thanks

      Alan,
The EZARC Committee has not yet met to discuss GippsTech 2020 in detail. I understand that the Committee will meet in mid-January.
